Have you been laid off? Downsized? Lost your job? The Simsbury Chamber is looking for you! At the March meeting, the board of directors of the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce unanimously voted in favor of extending a complimentary 2010/2011 membership to anyone who has lost their job in 2009 or will during 2010 and who starts their own business. The offer extends to entrepreneurs who live in Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, East Granby or Granby.
“The board recognizes the hardship a job loss can mean to someone”, stated Pam Bowman, president of the Simsbury Chamber and regional manager of Prime Touch Services. “This ‘entrepreneur membership’ is our way of saying that we recognize these challenging times and the Simsbury Chamber is here to help you get back on your feet”.
The Simsbury Chamber of Commerce, the eighth largest in the Hartford region, currently has a membership of 450 companies with an extensive array of benefits and services for its members.
Marketing Committee Chairman Kay Green of Green Graphic Design said “My committee is always looking at new and innovative ways to help our members promote and market their businesses. From the business directory to our fabulous website, we have a lot to offer new and existing businesses – especially those just starting out”.
Started in October 1961 and looking forward to celebrating 50 years in 2011, the Simsbury Chamber has been actively involved in the town of Simsbury from hosting street festivals and home improvement shows to working with town government on local regulations and ordinances.
Many chamber members are active members of town boards and commission, clubs and organizations, PTO’s, athletic teams and local non-profits. “I’m amazed at the depth of knowledge and expertise our members bring to the organization” said Sarah Neighbours, chairman of the Membership Committee and agent for Coldwell Banker. “I have an easy job when it comes to promoting the value of our membership”.
