School To Career
The Simsbury Chamber of Commerce's School-to-Career Programs help Simsbury students make connections between their school activities and the skills and competencies required in today's workplace.
Through it's Education Committee, the Simsbury Chamber sponsors and develops career exploration programs like Job Shadow Day, internships, career and business skills workshops, the Henry James "Lunch & Learn Program, business certification awards and school-to-work support grants. These fun and educational programs take place throughout the school year and involve hundreds of Simsbury students and local business people.
Job Shadow Day Job Shadow Day, held in November, matches students with local business mentors and gives them the opportunity to visit a workplace, ask questions about a job or career field and even get some "hands on" experience for a day. The program is open to students in any grade at Simsbury High School, with juniors and seniors having first priority.
Skills Workshop The Simsbury Chamber Education Committee sponsors the annual interactive SHS Skills Workshop which helps to prepare students for the challenges they will face with their first job interviews, college admissions and managing their own finances.
HJMS Lunch & Learn The Henry James Middle School "Lunch & Learn Program" began in 2007 as a way to get 7th and 8th grade students interested in learning about career choices, the journey from school to career and what insights we, as the business community, might have learned along the way.
